'Site Safety Handbook for the Petroleum Industry' released

New book provides simplified guide to ensuring worker safety in petroleum environments

Having worked as an engineer in the petroleum industry for over 30 years, author Chidi Venantius Efobi saw the need for a simplified safety resource material that would cater to the needs of all on-site workers in the oil and gas industries.

This motivated him to write the "Site Safety Handbook for the Petroleum Industry" (published by Partridge Singapore), a comprehensive yet easy-to-understand guidebook for occupational safety for all workers with differing experience levels.

The book details the site occupational safety requirements for exploration, drilling, construction, operation and maintenance activities in the petroleum industry. It is written in simple language devoid of technical jargons and scientific formula hence useful to site engineers/workers that are not safety professionals, engineers and operations personnel newly assigned to safety roles as well as experienced safety professionals.

Still, the author warns readers to be cautious in following specific guidelines and to not take the book's content to apply in extremely specialized conditions:

"The safety measures stated in this book are just generic guidelines and should not be taken as standards," says Efobi. "It does not remove the liability from the reader to use sound engineering practice and established standards to make judgments in specific situations he/she encounters."

Broadly informative, "Site Safety Handbook for the Petroleum Industry" offers an easy guide to ensuring employee/worker safety in critically risky petroleum environments.
